New Education - Today
Words: Tommy Jackson
Bands like New Education don't usually like to admit to turning up to school much, but New Education were clearly paying attention the day the teacher was explaining how to write inspirational pop songs. It's all here - downtrodden lyrics, jangly guitars, big choruses and the rest. If you think you've heard it all before, it's probably because you have.
Today is a post-Thatcher call to arms which only just manages to stay on the right side of the cliche-ridden line crossed far too often by co-Midlanders The Enemy. Whilst there's nothing that's horrifically bad about this single, there is little to make it stand out either. When you're half pissed at half eleven, it could be a classic, any other time? Pretty ordinary really.
